Bathroom Renovations For Less.

Good news. Renovating your bathroom does not have to cost you an arm and a leg. Perhaps you are one of many people right now thinking about the year ahead and the jobs you would like to get done. Top of many people’s lists for renovations are often kitchens and bathrooms, so here’s our easy guide to renovating your bathroom for less.

At the cheapest end, you can simply make cosmetic changes to your bathroom, such as paint, new fixings or perhaps even a new sink or vanity. But spend a few more dollars and you could be looking at a bigger shower, a light-filled room or a luxurious paradise in which to relax and unwind.

Repainting your bathroom

A new coat of paint can really go a long way to transforming a bathroom. Take the time to do it well, and be sure to purchase bathroom paint which has additives to ensure it lasts in a damp environment like a bathroom.

Spend time on the preparation - it’s the key to success! Get rid of any flaky paint, be sure to sand and fill any holes, and you’ll at the great professional finish you achieve. Remember that caulking is your friend. Use it to fill gaps between door frames and walls as well as along the top of skirting.

Choosing colours can always be tricky. If you’re thinking of selling then stick to more neutral colours, but if you are planning to stay in your house a while, then just go for it with anything that takes your fancy - it’s your bathroom, so you make it what you want!

For investment purposes, stick to creams, beiges, whites and other low-key colours and use accessories to add splashes of colour to the bathroom.

Tiling your bathroom

So tiles can be expensive, but they don’t have to be. If your bathroom is small then lookout for deals on end of line stock at tile shops. If you bought a house and one or two of the tiles are cracked or broken, then spend the time trying to find those tiles - then just buy enough to replace rather than completing redoing the tiling.

If you’re not that handy, we seriously suggest you use a tiler - they will lay the tiles right and you won’t be constantly looking at your bodge-ups!

Finishing

Remember that horrid motel you stayed in with the mould around the shower? Don’t put up with your own bathroom being the same. Remove all the silicone around the shower, bath sink and toilet, then lay masking tape down and redo it. It’s a bit tricky, but with some practice, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it years ago.

If the grout around your tiles has started to look permanently dirty, then its time to replace it, especially around the shower floor. Replace it with Epoxy grout as this is much more durable and stain-proof.

Vanity units in your bathroom

Vanity units often form the centrepiece of any bathroom. Consider simply adding a new top or recycling an old dresser, by cutting a hole in the top for your sink. Done right, this can look incredibly stylish.

Fixtures

Sometimes it’s all in the details, and none more so than with your choice in fixtures. It’s time to get creative and think about how to really personalise your bathroom with cool fixtures. Think about towel rails and hooks and toilet roll holders. Towel rails from copper pipe can look really great, as can hooks made from beach pebbles - these envoke memories of places you been too!

Just spend a few hours browsing through Pinterest or take look at our blogs and you’ll be enthused to try some new ideas.
